Artist Statement 2023
I’ve titled this body of work Divining Truth because it’s centered on altered memories, understanding that they are not absolute representations of past events, but rather emotionally charged impressions colored by our individual perspectives. Memories are malleable, susceptible to the influence of personal biases, emotions, and the passage of time. They become fluid subjects, constantly shifting and evolving, reflecting the complexity and subjectivity of our inner worlds.
With this work I hope to evoke a bitter-sweet feeling that allows us to reconnect with moments that still conjure hidden secrets. My choices of color, texture, and form are intentional emphases of solitude and wonder – spaces where the search for absolutes is rare, if not futile.
